About her sculpture
Hirondelle is a delicate image full of symbolism. The swallow, whose belly has been torn open, lies on a young hand. Red coral emerges from the abdomen as a sign of life. It is protected by a great hand.........or crushed. The viewer can decide that for themselves. “For a short period I felt like this swallow. As if I was being crushed."
About Jackie Sleper
“My images are already there. There will come a time when they will be made” – Jackie Sleper
Jackie Sleper (1962) has been making work for forty years in which she (re)discovers beauty and fights injustice. The temptation, strength, power and powerlessness of people, human relationships, the vulnerability of a child, animals and nature are her most important themes. Her colorful, layered photos, drawings, collages, paintings and sculptures arise from thoughts, memories, observations, own poems and diary entries.
In 2007, Jackie won First Prize in the Sculptures and Installations categories at the Biennale Internazionale dell'arte contemporanea di Firenze (for her entire oeuvre).
